Delhi: Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting believes that Indian batsman Shubman Gill has made many changes in his batting style, due to which he is not able to score much runs on foreign tours. However, Ponting suggested that Gill needed to gain confidence in his game.

Gill could not play the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to a thumb injury. Apart from this, he did not perform well in the next two Test matches of the series played in Adelaide and Gabba.
Ponting said in the ICC review, “I like watching Shubman Gill play, when he is in form, his batting is unique, but his performance abroad has not been up to expectations.” He told that changes were seen in Gill’s technique in Adelaide, due to which he failed to score runs.
He further said, “In Adelaide, I saw that while facing the balls of Scott Boland, Gill moved the front pad forward on the ball falling on the off stump. “His technical shortcomings were exposed when he was bowled on a straight ball.” Ponting believes that instead of making major changes, Gill should rely on his technique and improve it.
He said, “Gil will have to work a little more on his defensive technique. Especially to score runs in Australia. He has always been scoring runs by batting aggressively and he should play with the same mentality.”
The Indian squad for the fourth and fifth Test is as follows:
Rohit Sharma (captain), Jasprit Bumrah (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep. , Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Devdutt Padikkal, Tanush Kotian.
