Delhi: Former Australian cricketer and current commentator Mark Waugh has given a big statement regarding Indian captain Rohit Sharma. During a conversation on Fox Cricket, he said that if he had been a selector, he would have dropped Rohit Sharma.
Decision on Rohit Sharma’s retirement may come soon, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar reached Melbourne
Mark Waugh clarified that Rohit Sharma is currently struggling as a batsman and captain. He said, “If Rohit Sharma fails in the MCG Test and does not score runs even in the second innings, then as a selector I would have decided to drop him and make Jasprit Bumrah the captain for the Sydney Test.”
In the last 14 Test innings, he has scored only 155 runs, in which his average has been only 11. As captain, he has lost four out of the last five Test matches.
Mark Waugh further said, “Rohit Sharma’s average reflects his recent form. There comes a time in the career of every great player, when his best performance is left behind. If Rohit does not perform better before the Sydney Test, the end of his career may be near.”
Rohit Sharma has not been able to even touch the 20-run mark in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, while Jasprit Bumrah has taken more wickets than him. This situation has increased the problems for Rohit.
