On the first day of the fourth test, Bumrah took 3 wickets for 75 runs in 34 overs. After this, in the second innings too, he broke the Indian record of taking the most wickets in a single cycle of the World Test Championship by dismissing Sam Costans, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey. Earlier this record was in the name of Ravichandran Ashwin, who took 71 wickets in the WTC 2019-21 cycle.

Currently the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is tied at 1-1. Bumrah has taken 29 wickets so far in this series, making him the bowler taking the most wickets in the five-match series.
