Delhi: Sunil Gavaskar talked about Virat Kohli’s weakness on balls outside the off-stump in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Indian team’s star batsman Kohli did not live up to the expectations in this test series. He has scored only one century so far, which came in the first Test in Perth.

‘He insulted 1.5 billion Indians, not Pant’, demand for action against Head’s obscene gesture

Gavaskar told Kohli’s solution

In the Boxing Day Test, Kohli once again tampered with balls outside the off-stump and was out in both innings. He scored 36 and 5 in Melbourne, and India suffered a crushing defeat by 184 runs. This technical weakness of Kohli, where he slips the ball or edges it near the wicketkeeper, has been a matter of concern for the last four years.

While talking about this problem of Kohli, Gavaskar also told its possible solution. He said, “Kohli’s foot is not going in the direction of the ball, but is going straight to the pitch. If the foot moves towards the ball then the middle part of the bat will be able to hit the ball more easily.”

He further said, “Because the leg is not moving, Kohli is playing wrong shots while trying to reach the ball. This is becoming the cause of their problems.”

Top order criticism

The former captain also criticized the Indian top order and said that except Yashasvi Jaiswal, no one fulfilled their responsibility. He said, “It all depends on the selectors. The contribution that was expected did not happen. The top order should contribute, if the top order is not contributing, then why blame the lower order.”

Gavaskar also said about the senior players (Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma), “The senior batsmen did not perform as was expected from them. He just had to take the day out and prepare for the Sydney Test, but that could not happen. This is the reason why India has come to this situation.”
