Delhi: The performance of the Indian team in the ongoing Test series in Australia has not been as per expectations. After the victory in the first Test in Perth, the team’s momentum slowed down, and after the defeats in Adelaide and Melbourne, questions are being raised continuously. Rohit Sharma’s performance has been very disappointing in this series. His Test average in 2024 has been less than 25, and now there are speculations that he may play his last Test match in Sydney.
Will Rohit Sharma retire?
According to the report of Times of India, Rohit Sharma’s retirement is considered almost certain. If he retires, the question arises that who will be the next captain of India in Test cricket. Some possible names have emerged out of which BCCI can make any one the captain. Now the board will have to take this decision quickly.
Contenders for captaincy in test
India’s most successful Test captain Virat Kohli, who left the captaincy in 2022, has now once again become a contender for the post. According to reports, Kohli has told the team management that he is willing to take over as captain. Kohli has captained in 68 Test matches, out of which 40 have been won, 17 lost and 11 drawn. His record is on top among the most successful captains of India.
Apart from Kohli, three more contenders
Apart from Virat Kohli, three more players are being seen as contenders for captaincy in Tests. The first name is that of Team India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Apart from this, Pant and Gill are also considered contenders for captaincy.
