Delhi: Indian wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant said that he batted with restraint on the first day of the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) Test against Australia. Considering the nature of the pitch and the situation of the match, he had to abandon his aggressive style and decide to play cautiously. Pant scored 40 runs in 98 balls in this match. India’s first innings was reduced to 185 runs.

‘Decided to play it safe’

The wicketkeeper said, “In this innings I was in no mood to take the game into my own hands, because the ball was moving a lot on the pitch and our position was also critical. I felt that if I tried to play big shots early, we could have lost 2-3 wickets early. This was the reason why I decided to play cautiously.”

He further said, “It is important to back yourself and trust your natural game. But, with time you also have to create a balance. It is important to strike the right balance between aggressive cricket and safe shots. That’s what I’m trying to learn.”

Suffered many injuries on the body

During the match, Pant was hit on the body several times by the ball. He said on this, “Yes, it was painful, but one has to work hard for the team. I am not thinking too much about it and just trying to give my best.” In cricket, things do not go according to plan. Everything happens for the first time. “This is the first time this has happened to me, but I am not thinking too much about it.”

Pant also said that the score of 185 is not high, but the team can fight on it.
