The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 has been no less than a nightmare for Indian captain Rohit Sharma. Due to poor form, he had to drop himself from the Sydney Test. Fans are hopeful that Hitman will score a lot of runs with the bat in the upcoming series.

Today, 8th January is very special for Rohit Sharma. On this day in 2011, Mumbai Indians bought him in the auction for $2 million and included him in their team. Rohit was previously a part of Deccan Chargers for three seasons.

Rohit Sharma has completed 14 years playing for Mumbai Indians. The franchise has shared a special video on social media, which is gaining a lot of headlines.

Rohit Sharma is the first captain to win five IPL trophies.

Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians have won the title five times. The franchise is the joint team with the most trophy wins along with Chennai Super Kings. Rohit took over the captaincy in the middle of the 2013 season, replacing Ricky Ponting. Ponting was struggling with very poor form at that time.

Mumbai’s fortunes brightened as soon as Hitman became the captain and the team won the first title by defeating Chennai Super Kings in the final. Mumbai again won the trophy in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. Rohit is also the first player to win five IPL trophies as captain.

His success as the captain of Mumbai Indians also made him the captain of the Indian cricket team. He became the full-time captain of India in all three formats by replacing Virat Kohli in 2022.
