Delhi: Indian cricket team’s veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been out of Team India for more than 400 days and the situation regarding his injury is not clear. Although, he has made a comeback in domestic cricket, he is still away from international cricket. The right-arm pacer has been playing from Ranji Trophy to Vijay Hazare Trophy, but he has not returned to the Indian team. However, now it seems that their wait may be over.

Today, i.e. on Thursday, Shami can play for Bengal in the pre-quarterfinals of Vijay Hazare Trophy. The Indian team is to be selected for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on January 12, and the selectors will keep a special eye on Shami’s fitness. If Shami appears to be in his element, not only can he get a place in the Champions Trophy team, but he can also be seen playing in the ODI series against England.

Shami played the last match for India on 19 November 2023 in the final of the ICC ODI World Cup, in which India had to face defeat against Australia. After this, Shami got injured and had to undergo knee surgery. In November 2024, he returned to the field in a Ranji Trophy match.

Shami played all three formats in domestic cricket in November-December. He participated in Ranji Trophy (four-day match), Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20) and Vijay Hazare Trophy (List A). Despite all these matches, he was not sent on the Australia tour, due to which the fans and many former cricket greats seemed angry.

Today, on January 9, two pre-quarterfinal matches of Vijay Hazare Trophy will be played. In the first match, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu will face each other, while in the second match, Bengal team will face Haryana. Everyone’s eyes will be fixed on Shami’s fitness and performance.
