Delhi: SA20 League has started in South Africa. In the first match, Mumbai Indians’ franchise team MI Cape Town’s star batsman Dewald Brevis, popularly known as ‘Baby de Villiers’, created a stir with his explosive batting. In the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) auction, Mumbai Indians (MI) had dropped Brewis from the team and no other franchise also placed bets on him. But, Brewis surprised everyone with his explosive innings in the first match of the SA20 League. He played a stormy inning of 57 runs in just 29 balls with the help of two fours and six sixes, due to which MI Cape Town defeated the defending champion Sunrisers Eastern Cape by a huge margin of 97 runs.
In the inaugural match of SA20, the teams of MI Cape Town and Sunrisers Eastern Cape were face to face. Batting first, Dewald Brewis from MI Cape Town created a ruckus with his bat. He scored 57 runs in 29 balls with the help of two fours and six sixes. George Linde also added 23* runs by hitting one four and one six in 17 balls. MI Cape Town scored a big score of 174 runs after losing seven wickets in 15 overs.
While chasing the target of 175 runs, Sunrisers Eastern Cape team could not stand against the lethal bowling of Delano Potgieter. Delano took five wickets for just 10 runs in three overs, due to which the Sunrisers team was reduced to just 77 runs. Captain Aiden Markram scored the highest 19 runs. In this way, Sunrisers had to face a crushing defeat by 97 runs.
