Delhi: After two months, the new season of the world’s biggest cricket league, i.e. Indian Premier League (IPL) can start in March. However, it has not been decided yet who will be the next captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Amidst the discussions, speculations are being made that great batsman Virat Kohli can once again take charge of RCB. RCB head coach Andy Flower has reacted to these speculations. He did not say anything clearly, but definitely gave hints.

After the IPL 2025 auction, fans are curious to know who will become the next captain of RCB. There has been much speculation about Virat. Meanwhile, Flower said, “We will have to wait for the results. This is a new era that we are entering. A new journey of three years is about to begin, and I am sure it will be good for everyone.”

He further said, “No matter how many times you ask me, there has been no discussion regarding captaincy till now.” However, it was not clear from his statement whether Kohli will become the captain or not, but with the talk of ‘new era’, speculations are being made that RCB can hand over the captaincy to a player who can lead the team for a long time.

Virat left the captaincy in 2021

It is noteworthy that Virat Kohli had captained RCB for almost 10 years. He took command of the team temporarily in 2011 and as full-time captain from 2013. But, in 2021, he surprised his fans by suddenly announcing his resignation from the captaincy of RCB. However, in 2023, when Faf du Plessis was injured, Virat captained the team in four matches.

After Kohli left the captaincy, South African star player Faf du Plessis was made the new captain of RCB. He took charge of the team till 2024, but RCB released him before the IPL 2025 auction. After this, in the auction, Delhi Capitals included Faf du Plessis in their team for Rs 2 crore.
