Delhi: New Zealand captain and all-rounder Sophie Devine has decided to pull out of the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2025) to give priority to her health. Divine was a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team. Apart from this, she is also out of the remaining matches of the current domestic season and will return to her home soon.
A New Zealand Cricket (NZC) release said a decision on Devine’s playing future would be taken at the appropriate time. NZC, Cricket Wellington and RCB have supported his decision. RCB has not yet announced the name of any player in his place.
Devine took part in the Super Smash tournament for Wellington, where he scored 38 runs and took eight wickets in five matches. In his last match, which he played against Canterbury in Christchurch, Devine took five wickets for 13 runs. Since winning the T20 World Cup in October 2024, Devine has featured in the ODI series against India, the WBBL for Perth Scorchers, and the ODI series against Australia.
Divine, who was a member of RCB’s title-winning team in 2024, was retained before the 2025 auction. In the 2024 WPL, he scored 136 runs in ten matches and took 6 wickets. Let us tell you that RCB’s first match will be against Gujarat Giants on 15th February at the new BCA Stadium in Vadodara.
