Delhi: The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is now just 11 days left. The tournament will start on February 19 with the first match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi. Meanwhile, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have taken a big decision against Afghanistan.
The ECB has confirmed that England will play against Afghanistan on 26 February as per the scheduled schedule in Lahore. This decision was taken when many UK politicians demanded a boycott of the match. ECB took this decision after discussion with the UK Government, ICC and English players.
In fact, last month, more than 160 British politicians appealed not to play matches against Afghanistan. His protest was due to the ban on women’s participation in sports after the Taliban rule returning to power in 2021, which is considered a violation of ICC rules. However, Afghanistan’s men’s team is allowed to compete in international cricket.
ECB President Richard Thompson said about this decision, “Cricket is the only source of happiness for many common Afghan citizens. For this reason we confirm that England will play this match. “
Talking about cricket, Afghanistan has improved the format of limited overs in recent years and currently ranks 8th in the ODI rankings, while England occupies 7th position. Let us know that the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be organized in Pakistan and UAE from 19 February to 9 March. The tournament will be played in the hybrid model, in which India will play all its matches in Dubai. Apart from England and Afghanistan, the group also includes Australia and South Africa.
