Delhi: The game had to be stopped for about 30 minutes due to technical fault in the second ODI played between India and England. The reason for this delay was the shutdown of the floodlight in the stadium. Due to this, the fans trolled the BCCI on social media.
In this match being played at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, when India scored 48 runs in 6.1 overs without any loss, a floodlight tower first flicked and then stopped completely. Due to the problem of lights, Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill returned to the dugout, and the England players also left the field.
Technical fault became a big reason
According to sources in the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA), there was a technical fault in the generator, which shut down the floodlight. After this it took time to start the backup generator. Because of this, the game had to be stopped for half an hour, which caused a lot of problems for the players and the audience.
Negligence of stadium management?
OCA Secretary Sanjay Behera said that the backup generator could not immediately reach the floodlight tower, as the players were busy in his way. The driver was also not present in the bus, which was called by call and the generator could be installed only after removing the bus. After this, the floodlight started again and the game started again.
Government sought clarification
On this incident, Sports Minister Suryavanshi Suraj, Government of Odisha has sent a notice to OCA and sought a reply within 10 days. In the notice, it has been asked why this kind of problem happened, who was responsible in this and what steps will be taken to avoid such incidents in future.
The Barabati Stadium has been in the discussion due to such incidents many times before. After this incident, discussions about the renewal of the stadium have also started. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has also said to take action on this issue soon.
