Delhi: Big investment in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is not new, and now another big change can be seen. India’s well-known business group, Torrent Group, Gujarat Titans (GT) is going to buy 67% stake. This stake will be taken from the current owner CVC Capital Partners. If it is approved by the IPL Governing Council, then this new ownership can be applied from the IPL 2025 season. The first match of IPL 2025 will start from March 21.
Great start of Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans stepped into IPL in 2021 and created history in their first season. CVC Capital Partners bought this team for Rs 5625 crore (about $ 750 million). Under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, GT won the title in 2022 and reached the final in 2023. However, the team’s performance in 2024 did not as expected and he finished eighth in the points table.
Despite this poor performance, the identity of Gujarat Titans remains as a strong team.
Torrent Group’s first step in IPL
The Torrent Group had been trying to make its place in the IPL for a long time. In 2021, he bid for the teams of Ahmedabad and Lucknow, a bid of Rs 4653 crore and Rs 4356 crore respectively, but could not succeed. After this, in 2023, she also tried to buy the team in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), but there was no success there either.
Now, by purchasing Gujarat Titans, the Torrent Group has finally realized the dream related to its cricket. With this change, the company’s chairman Emeritus will lead the new era of the franchise, the son of Sudhir Mehta.
Team adorned with star players
The squad of Gujarat Titans with the new owner is also very strong. The team is captained by Shubman Gill, the emerging stars of Indian cricket. He is accompanied by veteran players like Rashid Khan, Jose Butler and Mohammad Siraj.
Shubman Gill will now have a big responsibility to take the team back to the top. In IPL 2025, Gujarat Titans will have a great opportunity to prove their reign again.
