Delhi: Tamil Nadu mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty is in a spectacular form. He was one of the players who played an important role in winning India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025. After success in ODI cricket recently, he now has the only option to perform in Test cricket. However, despite the announcement of Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement, Chakraborty has no intention of playing Test cricket.

Chakravarti’s style

Chakraborty said that his bowling method is not suitable for Test cricket. He told, “I am interested in Test cricket, but my bowling style is not right for Test cricket. My bowling is almost like medium pace. Test cricket has to bowl 20-30 consecutive overs, but I cannot do so much. I bow more fast, so I can only put a maximum of 10-15 overs, which is not suitable for the red ball. Currently, I am focusing on the white ball of 20 and 50 overs on cricket. ”

Great performance in Champions Trophy

Chakraborty took five wickets in his Champions Trophy 2025. He dismissed New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner with a ball at a speed of 115 km per hour. Subsequently, he took two wickets each against Australia in the semi-finals and New Zealand in the final.

Story of becoming a spinner

Chakraborty told that earlier he was a medium pacer, but due to the low swing in Tamil Nadu, he decided to become a spinner. He said, “Tamil Nadu does not swing, here most spin is suitable for bowlers. In such a situation, there is less space for fast bowlers. Very few fast bowlers have played for India, such as Bala ji and Natarajan. I am glad that I left fast bowling and adopted spin bowling. ”

Chakraborty’s only first class match

Chakraborty played his first and only one first class match in 2018. This was a match of the Ranji Trophy, in which he bowled 39 overs against Hyderabad, including eight maiden overs. He spent 105 runs and took one wicket. The match was a draw, as Abhinav Mukund and Narayan Jagadishan of Tamil Nadu scored centuries, while Hyderabad captain Akshat Reddy scored 250 runs.
