Delhi: Pakistan got a chance to host an ICC tournament after 29 years, but this tournament proved to be an economic shock for it. In the preparations for the Champions Trophy 2025, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) invested heavily, but now it has suffered a loss of Rs 739 crore. The Indian cricket team was also an important reason for this major deficit.
India refused to go to Pakistan
The BCCI refused to send the Indian team to Pakistan for security reasons. Due to this, some matches of the tournament were held in Dubai under the hybrid model. India’s matches were expected to make a big profit from the matches, but the plan failed. At the same time, out of the 10 matches played in Pakistan, 3 rained rain, which also affected the sale of tickets and the PCB had to refund the ticket money.
869 crore rupees spent, earning only 52 crores
According to reports, PCB spent Rs 560 crore to give a new look to the stadium of Rawalpindi, Karachi and Lahore. This amount was 50% more than the fixed budget. Apart from this, Rs 347 crore was spent separately in the preparations for the event. In comparison, only Rs 52 crore was earned from ticket sales and hosting fees, causing a loss of Rs 739 crore in total.
Players’ salary cut
To overcome this economic shock, the PCB is now cutting the salary of the players. The match fees of domestic cricketers have been reduced by 90%, while the reserve players will get only 12.50% of their old salary.
The hosting of the Champions Trophy had come up with great hope for Pakistan, but now it was all the financial trouble for it.
