Delhi: Goa -born spinner Shadab Jakati recently spoke openly about his time in Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). After winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) title with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) twice, Jakati joined RCB in 2014, but he got a chance to play only one match. Now, after a decade, he explained why RCB did not win the trophy till date.

‘2-3 players can’t win the trophy’

In a conversation with Sportskida, Jakati said, “Cricket is a team game. If you want to win the trophy, the whole team will have to play like a unit. Only 2-3 players cannot win the trophy. Chennai team had a good group of Indian players and foreign players were also excellent. The right combination is necessary. When I was in RCB, the management was focused on only 2-3 players.”

Jakati played only one match, in which he conceded 41 runs in 3.4 overs. He also told that RCB players were good, but there was no mutual coordination in the team. He said, “There was a lot of difference in the atmosphere of the team management and dressing room. The players were good, but there was a lack of solidarity in the team. The players could not get mixed up well among themselves.”

CSK praised

Recalling the time spent in CSK, Jakati said, “The role of team management is very important. Chennai’s management was very good, they used to take full care of the players. These small things make a big difference in the team’s performance. The same thing was the biggest difference between CSK and RCB.”

Contribution in the finals of IPL 2010 and 2011

Under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Jakati was part of the team winning the title for CSK in 2010 and 2011.

In the 2010 final, he took the crucial wicket of Mumbai Indians (Mi) captain Sachin Tendulkar (48 runs off 45 balls). He took 2 wickets for 26 runs in three overs. CSK won this final by 22 runs.

In the 2011 final, he dismissed RCB’s AB de Villiers. In that match, he took 2 wickets for 21 runs in four overs. CSK won the trophy for the second time by defeating RCB by 58 runs.

Jakati’s IPL Career

Shadab Jakati made his IPL debut in 2009. Playing four seasons for CSK, he took a total of 45 wickets. After spending a simple season in RCB, he became part of the Gujarat Lions, but there was not much success there either.

He has not played any match in the IPL since 2017 and now, currently 44 -year -old Jakati Asian Legends League is playing from India Royals team in 2025.
