IPL 2025 starts from 22 March.
The 18th season of IPL starts from 22 March 2025. The first match will be played between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Eden Garden. There is only two days left for the tournament to start and the BCCI has increased the thrill of the game by implementing new rules. The BCCI has decided to implement the new rules after meeting with the captains of all 10 teams on Thursday, March 20.
Let us tell you about the five new rules being implemented in IPL 2025-
IPL 2025 New Rules: Five new rules of IPL-
1. Bowlers will be able to use Salive
In IPL 2025, the bowlers will be seen using Salive from back. The decision was taken after discussion with the captains of all 10 teams, most of which supported it. The ban on saliva was imposed during the Covid-19 epidemic.
2. Second
A second ball rule will be implemented in IPL 2025 to deal with dew in night matches. Due to dew, the bowlers have to face difficulties in catching the ball, which benefits the batsmen, especially during the run chase. To deal with this problem, the umpires will assess the position of the ball after the 11th over of the second innings. If the dew is high, the bowling team will be allowed to use the new ball. However, this rule will not apply to afternoon matches.
3. Impact Player Rules will continue
The impact player rules launched in the previous edition will also continue in IPL 2025. This rule allows teams to change a player during the match, which gives more opportunities to uncapricated players, which do not get a chance to play otherwise.
4. DRS for height and off-side wide
Teams will also be able to use the Decision Review System (DRS) to check the balls outside the high wide and off stump. The use of Hawk-I technology and ball tracking will help the umpires to make accurate decisions.
5. Captains will not be banned due to slow-over rate
In IPL 2025, the captains will no longer be banned due to slow-over rate, they will be given demerit points. A demerit point system will be introduced similar to the model of ICC. Based on the severity of the violation, the captains will get demerit points and these points will remain in their records for three years. The ban will be imposed only in view of serious cases.
