Overview:
After the defeat in the first Test, coach Gautam Gambhir had said that “only three Tests will be fed to Bumrah”. To this, AB de Villiers said “Bumrah is the top bowler of the world” and the examples of del stan added that “they should play five tests”.
Delhi: The second match of the five -Test series between India and England will be played at Edgbaston Birmingham from July 2. Team India lost by 5 wickets in Leeds in the first Test. After this, the coach of the Indian team Gautam Gambhir spoke about the workload of Jaspreet Bumrah at the press conference. He had said that only three Tests will be fed to Bumrah in the series. However, this statement of Gambhir does not agree with former South African batsman AB de Villiers.
De Villiers spoke on Bumrah’s workload
AB de Villiers questioned the Indian team management and criticized the decision. Giving the example of Dale Stan, he said that Bumrah should also be used in the same way that Stan was done.
Bumrah has been the most trusted bowler for India and every condition for India. In the Leeds Test, he all out England with five wickets in the first innings. But, when he did not get a wicket in the second innings, England easily chased the run. This makes it clear how much effect the presence of Bumrah has.
De Villiers said on his YouTube channel, “Bumrah is probably the top bowler in all formats at this time. So it is quite difficult to decide what is the way to relax him. In my opinion, Test cricket is the highest format of the game. I think Bumrah’s most needed is the most needed in this Test series that he plays five matches (because the team is young).”
De Villiers gave the example of Dale Stan
De Villiers told that when he was in the South African team, Dale Steyn was never fed in small matches. “We used to do this with Dale Steyn. He was rested in less important T20 and ODI series. Stan was asked to be ready for a big Test series against Australia, England and India in his home. Somewhat against New Zealand, it depended on the ranking then.”
He also accused Team India that the workloads of the players are not being managed properly. The legendary batsman said, “I don’t know if it was an example or probably because he has returned from injury recently. Bumrah may have gone to the surgeon and he has told that he cannot play five Test matches. I mean you have to respect it and finally it depends on Team India how he can manage Bumrah well.”
It is clear from this statement of De Villiers that he wants a player who plays an important role like Bumrah to be given full opportunity in big formats like Test and he should be rested in the rest of the formats.
