Delhi: England fast bowler Jofra Archer bowled brilliantly against Afghanistan in the Champions Trophy 2025 match on Wednesday. He took three wickets during the first powerplay. Archer dismissed Ramanullah Gurbaz (6), Siddikullah Atal (4) and Rahmat Shah (4) at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. As soon as Archer bowled Gurbaz in the fifth over, he became England’s fastest bowler to complete 50 wickets in ODI cricket and created a new history.
Anderson’s record broke
Jofra Archer broke the record of taking the fastest 50 wickets in ODI cricket for England. Archer achieved this feat in just 30 ODIs, while earlier this record was named after James Anderson, who had completed 50 wickets in 31 matches. This is followed by the name of Steve Harmison, who did this feat in 32 matches. It is followed by Steven Finn (33), Darren Guff (34) and Stuart Broad (34).

The record of taking 50 wickets in ODI cricket is the name of Sri Lankan spinner Ajanta Mendis. He achieved this achievement in just 19 matches. Sandeep Lamichhane of Nepal did this in 22 matches. The fastest 50 ODI wicket -taking for India is Ajit Agarkar, who achieved this feat in 23 matches. New Zealand’s Mitchell McLenaghan also completed 50 wickets in 23 matches.

Jofra Archer is now jointly in tenth position in this list. He has joined the club of India’s leg -spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who also completed 50 wickets in 30 ODIs.
