Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) as soon as the league resumed in 2025, the rains destroyed the expectations of many teams. Rain in Bengaluru affected many matches. For this reason, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the playoff venue on 20 May and shifted the match of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) from Bengaluru to Lucknow.
DC also sought permission to shift the match
Partha Jindal, the owner of Delhi Capitals (DC), wrote a letter to the IPL requesting that his important match against Mumbai Indians (Mi) be shifted to somewhere else from Wankhede Stadium. He said that the Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow alert for the next four days in Mumbai on 20 May.
Partha Jindal wrote, “Just as the match of RCB and SRH was removed from Bengaluru, our team’s match should also be removed from Mumbai. We know six days ago that there is a possibility of heavy rains in Mumbai on May 21. There is a danger of cancellation of the match, which will affect our playoff chance.”
How can rain spoil DC’s playoff expectations?
Delhi Capitals have to win both their remaining matches to reach the playoffs. If the match in Mumbai is canceled due to rain, then DC and Mi will get one point each. Even after this, even if DC wins the next match, they will still have to depend on the match between Mumbai and Punjab. If Mi defeats Punjab, it will reach the playoffs with 17 points and DC will be out.
KKR also expressed resentment
Meanwhile, CEO Venki Mysore of Kolkata Knight Riders also sent a strict mail to BCCI. He said that if the rules were changed keeping in mind the rain, then his match against RCB could have survived.
He wrote, “Our playoff expectations were over due to the cancellation of our match against RCB. The decisions taken for such a sudden and no clear rule are not of the level of tournament like IPL.”
