Delhi: The mysterious spinner of Lucknow Super Giants, Digvesh Singh Rathi, gave a notebook sand-off to Punjab Kings (PBKS) opener Priyansh Arya on 1 April. For this, Digvesh has been given a 25 percent match fee fine and a demerit point for violating the Code of Conduct of IPL.

Digvesh gets punished

The BCCI said in a statement, “Digvesh Singh, bowler, Lucknow Super Giants have been fined 25 percent match fee for violation of IPL Code of Conduct and a demerit point. The incident was against Punjab Kings at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on 1 April.”

Digvesh has accepted the sentence of the match referee. This crime comes under Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct of IPL, which is considered to be the offense of Level 1.

Digvesh and Priyansh Arya Delhi Premier League (DPL) have been a fellow player with the Delhi Superstars team in 2024.

Event during the match

The incident occurred during the third over of the run chase of Punjab Kings. Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant called Digvesh for bowling. Priyansh Arya remained lucky at first because his catch fell into the slip. But on the fifth ball, he tried to play the bridge shot, but he was caught by Shardul Thakur due to the upper edge of the ball.

The celebrations that Digvesh celebrated then was a notebook celebration, earlier done by West Indies bowler Kesarik Williams. Virat Kohli made fun of Williams about this celebration.

Divyesh bowling and Punjab’s victory

Priyansh’s wicket did not affect the match much, as Prabhasimran Singh of Punjab played a brilliant innings of 69 runs. In the 11th over, Divyesh was brought again for bowling and he took Prabhasimran’s wicket. Prabhasimran scored 69 runs in 34 balls. He was caught by Ravi Bishnoi playing a bad shot.

However, Punjab easily achieved the target of 172 runs with 8 wickets and 22 balls. Shreyas Iyer (52* runs, 30 balls) and Nihal Wadera (43* runs, 25 balls), the innings won Punjab.
