Delhi: Former England captain Alastair Cook has reacted to the ongoing Test series between India and Australia. He especially praised young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal. While talking to TNT Sports, Cook described Jaiswal as the most amazing batsman in world cricket. He said, “We have seen their performance here, but it was even more fun against Australia than against England.”

Cook praised Jaiswal’s confidence and said, “Jaiswal was not on a big score at that time, but still he sledged Mitchell Starc. He was saying that Starc was bowling slow. I have faced Starc, and he definitely doesn’t bowl slow. If this had happened, I would have remained silent, but showing such confidence at the age of 22 is commendable.”

Cook also said, “I think he has scored more runs than any Indian player after 15 Test matches at the top of the order. Batting in a place like Australia is the most difficult. Jaiswal is really a great player.”

Yashasvi breaks Sehwag’s record

In the second test, Yashasvi Jaiswal has a chance to break the record of explosive opener Virender Sehwag. Currently, Sehwag holds the record for scoring the most runs as an opener for India in Test cricket in a year. In 2008, Sehwag scored 1462 runs in 27 innings of 14 matches at an average of 56.23. At the same time, Jaiswal has scored 1280 runs in 23 innings of 12 matches in 2024 at an average of 58.18. Now he needs only 183 runs to break this record.
