Delhi: Ashutosh Sharma’s journey to shine in the IPL started in the last season, when he played some important innings for Punjab Kings (PBKS). However, Punjab released him, but Delhi Capitals (DC) took advantage of the opportunity and included him in his team for Rs 3.8 crore in the mega auction.
In the first match of IPL 2025, Ashutosh played such an innings for Delhi Capitals which surprised everyone. The Delhi team was struggling at a score of 65/5 at one time against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and it seemed difficult to chase the target of 210 runs. However, he scored an unbeaten 66 off 31 balls and won Delhi by 1 wicket.
Important role of Dhawan, Peterson and Dhoni
After a spectacular performance against Lucknow, Ashutosh indicated the ‘Switch Hit’ in his celebration, which was dedicated to Mentor Kevin Pietersen of Delhi Capitals. Ashutosh said that during the match, Peterson advised him to trust himself in the dugout. He said, “Peterson sir told me to trust his ability. He showed confidence in me, so I wanted to dedicate my victory to him.”
Ashutosh also told about Shikhar Dhawan that he learned a lot from Dhawan while playing for Punjab Kings. He said, “Dhawan Bhai always says that the player’s confidence and mentality takes him forward. He has always taught me to remain humble.”
Apart from this, Ashutosh revealed that he had also met MS Dhoni in the last season, who had taught him the tricks of finishing. When Ashutosh was asked what special advice Dhoni had given to him, he smiled and said, “This is a secret.”
