Delhi: Ravichandran Ashwin suddenly announced his retirement from international cricket during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Although he did not elaborate on the reasons behind this, this decision has given rise to many speculations. According to reports, Ashwin was suffering from a knee injury for a long time and he took this decision after careful consideration.

The decision was taken because of the priority given to Sundar.

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh believes that Ashwin probably took this decision because the team management is now giving priority to Washington Sundar. Sundar recently performed brilliantly during the home test series against New Zealand. After taking 11 wickets in Pune and showing excellent all-round play in Mumbai, the selectors also selected him for the Australia tour. On the Australia tour, Sundar played in place of Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the first Test. Ashwin was included in the second test, but he took only one wicket.

Harbhajan Singh made a big revelation

Harbhajan Singh while talking to ‘Dainik Jagran’ said, “This is a big decision and that too in the middle of the series. Perhaps we were hoping to see him playing in the Sydney or Melbourne Test, because the role of spinners is important there. But, we should respect his decision. He is a big player and has won many matches for India. I salute his achievements and wish him all the best for his future.”

Harbhajan further said that Ashwin might have realized that the team is now looking at Washington Sundar as its future. He said, “When you have so many records and wickets in your name and you get a place in the team on foreign tours, then this decision is not easy. But, perhaps Ashwin might have thought that now the selectors will give more chances to Sundar. This decision must have been difficult for him.”
