Delhi: The news of Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement from international cricket once again refreshed the memories of Dhoni in the cricket world. Ashwin’s sudden retirement announcement was reminiscent of MS Dhoni’s sudden retirement from Test cricket in the middle of the Test series against Australia in 2014.
‘Kohli will be reborn in Melbourne’, former Australian legend’s big claim
Shastri remembered Dhoni’s retirement
After the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was drawn at the Gabba, Ashwin announced his retirement. On this occasion, former India head coach Ravi Shastri remembered the incident of Dhoni when he had announced his retirement from Test cricket. Speaking to SEN Radio, Ravi Shastri said, “Dhoni suddenly said, ‘Ravi, I want to talk to the team for five minutes.’ Then I was thinking that maybe he would congratulate the team for drawing the match, but he simply said, ‘Thank you, I am over all this now (I am now retiring from Test cricket)’.”
‘No one had any idea of this’
Dhoni had made this announcement after the Melbourne Test was drawn in 2014. Shastri told that Dhoni gave a short speech of only five minutes. He did not make any big deal or drama in this. He said directly, “I will not play in the Sydney Test, but I will fully support the team for the World Cup.”
Recalling the atmosphere of the dressing room at that time, Ravi Shastri said, “I looked around, no one had any idea that Dhoni was going to say something like this. “Even the players who were spending time with him for the last three days had no idea about this.”
