Overview:
India’s participation regarding the Asia Cup 2025 is not yet decided. The government’s approval is awaited as there is tension about the match with Pakistan. If the situation does not improve, then the tournament can be in UAE. The BCCI also wants changes about the ACC meeting.
Delhi: Asia Cup 2025 is not far away, but there are still many questions about the tournament. The biggest question is about the match between India and Pakistan. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not received approval from the government of India. The reason is the increased tension between India and Pakistan, which has deepened after the Pahalgam terror attack.
Asia Cup may be in UAE
The Asia Cup is to be held from 5 September and the India-Pakistan match is scheduled on 7 September. However, if the situation is not normal, then the tournament can be shifted to UAE. Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah have been selected as an alternative venue. A senior official said that the UAE plan was already prepared, but now the situation has changed and whatever decision the government will take, it will be considered.
On the other hand, BCCI has also objected to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting to be held on July 24 in Bangladesh. BCCI has clearly stated that it is not right to go to Dhaka in view of the current political situation and the venue of the meeting should be changed. If there is no change, then the BCCI can withdraw from the meeting.
The Asia Cup will be played in T20 format this time so that teams can prepare for the T20 World Cup 2026. If the Asia Cup is canceled, BCCI is also looking at the option of organizing a tri-series or multi-holding tournament in August-September.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has proposed to play a short series to India. It includes three ODIs and three T20s. In such a situation, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli can be seen playing again for India because both have retired from Tests and T20s.
