Delhi: Sam Constas performed brilliantly on his debut for the Australian cricket team in the fourth match of the five-match Test series being played between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). He scored 60 runs in just 65 balls against the Indian bowlers. On the basis of his innings, Australia recorded a new record of scoring the most runs in the first session of the first day of the Boxing Day Test.

By lunch on the first day of the fourth Test against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the host team scored 112/1. Australia broke a 17 year old record with this performance. Australia scored 111 runs in the first session of the first day against India in the 2007 Boxing Day Test.

His partner opening batsman Khawaja also played an important role in helping Kontas reach this record. Khawaja, who is finding his form in the series, scored 57 runs with the help of 6 fours and scored the first half-century of the current series.
