Delhi: Team India’s batting has once again come under question in the first match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. In the Test being played in Perth, India won the toss and decided to bat. But this decision seemed wrong, because the team could not even play 50 overs and was limited to just 150 runs.
AUS vs IND: Virat’s flop show continued in Perth Test, ‘King’ returned disappointed once again
Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul came to start the innings, but Yashasvi returned to the pavilion in the third over without opening his account. The Indian top order looked helpless in front of the brilliant bowling of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. Even Devdutt Padikkal could not open his account at number 3, then in the middle order, Virat Kohli was out early after scoring 5 runs and Dhruv Jurel was out after scoring 11 runs. KL Rahul played a bit of a struggling inning and scored 26 runs in 74 balls, but he too could not play a long inning.
Rishabh Pant played an attacking inning of 37 runs and debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy’s 41 runs showed some strength. Both of them added 48 runs for the seventh wicket, due to which India could somehow reach 150 runs. Nitish showed confidence in his debut match and hit 6 fours and 1 six in 59 balls. But due to lack of support from the other end, he also got out while trying to score runs quickly.
Australian bowlers performed tremendously. Josh Hazlewood took 4 wickets, while Starc and Cummins took 2 wickets each. There is now a big responsibility on the Indian bowlers, especially the team has a lot of expectations from captain Jasprit Bumrah, who has taken 3 wickets (till the time of writing the news).
