Delhi: Indian bowler Mohammad Siraj had to face a lot of opposition from the Australian audience during the Brisbane Test. When Siraj came running to bowl, the spectators in the Gaba ground booed him loudly. This sequence continued for the entire over. In this match, India won the toss for the third consecutive time and this time decided to bowl first. Jasprit Bumrah made a good start against Usman Khawaja. Siraj was handed the new ball from the other end, but as soon as he started bowling, the audience started booing.

Pakistan cheated Sam Ayub, despite having 98 runs, did not give him a chance to score a century.

Why was there protest?

The roots of this protest at Gabba are linked to the last Test match in Adelaide, when Siraj had a passionate celebration after dismissing Australian batsman Travis Head. Head had scored 140 runs in that innings and hit many fours on Siraj’s balls. After getting out, Head said that he had told Siraj “good bowling”, but Siraj took it wrong.

After this incident, ICC took action against both the players. Siraj was fined 20% of his match fee, while Travis Head received only one demerit point.

Changes in Indian team

The Indian team made two changes for the Brisbane Test. After losing by 10 wickets in Adelaide, Ravindra Jadeja was included in the team in place of Ravichandran Ashwin, and Akash Deep was given a chance in the team in place of struggling fast bowler Harshit Rana.
