Delhi: Indian captain Rohit Sharma decided to bat in the middle order after six years. But, his comeback was not good. After missing the first match, Rohit joined the team for the second match. After KL Rahul’s good performance in the opening, it was decided that Rahul would open only and the captain would come at number six. But, this decision of the management proved wrong in the first innings.

Rohit stuck at the crease again

Australian bowler Scott Boland ended his innings on 3 runs in just 23 balls. In the third over after the first session, a ball from Boland came in sharply from good length, and Rohit, who often does this at the start of his innings, was stuck at the crease. The movement of his front foot was very less, due to which he was not in a position to handle the swing of the ball. The result was that he was out LBW.

Gilchrist made fun

Former Australian wicketkeeper batsman Adam Gilchrist commented on Rohit’s footwork and humorously highlighted his shortcomings. Gilchrist said, “Hazelwood was Australia’s best bowler in Perth, but having Boland in his place is also not bad. Boland is tall, but it is worth wondering whether if this ball had been Hazlewood’s, he would have been able to hit the stumps or not. Boland balls tend to skid, and it happened here too. Rohit Sharma’s front foot was frozen, and it proved to be his ‘good night’ (end of innings).”

Taking a big step for the team, the opening position was given to in-form KL Rahul. This decision was appreciated by fans and experts, because they believed that the pairing of Rohit and Pant in the middle order would give depth to the Indian batting. Now if this experiment of Rohit continues, then perhaps it can be beneficial for the team in future. As of now, this is not a good start at all.
