Delhi: In the third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy being played at Gabba, Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first. Due to rain on the first day only 13.2 overs could be played. On the second day, Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah put Australia under pressure by giving initial blows. However, Travis Head and Steve Smith took the lead and rescued Australia from trouble, where both scored brilliant centuries.
Head showed a great balance of patience and aggression against the Indian bowlers and scored a century. He scored 152 runs, which included 18 fours. This is his 9th century overall in Test cricket and his third against India. Head has always performed brilliantly against India. He has scored 3 centuries and 4 half-centuries in 13 test matches.
With this, Head has made a unique record in his name. He has become the first batsman in Test history to score a “king pair” (being out on zero on the first ball in both innings) and a century on the same ground in the same calendar year. In January 2024, he became the victim of a King Pair against West Indies at Gabba. Now in December 2024, he has scored a century against India on the same ground. Head’s performance on the Gabba field has always been impressive. So far he has scored a total of 452 runs including two centuries.
It is noteworthy that Head, who made his Test debut in 2018, has now become a strong link in the Australian batting order. He has scored 3533 runs in 52 test matches and is continuously strengthening the team with his play.
