Delhi: Australia has included Tasmanian all-rounder Beau Webster in its squad for the second Test against India. Webster has been added to the team as cover for Mitchell Marsh.
‘KL Rahul will make Delhi win IPL’ DC co-owner has full confidence
Webster had performed brilliantly in red-ball cricket recently, especially in the two-match series against India ‘A’. In this unofficial Test series, Webster scored 145 runs at an average of 72.50. Apart from this, he also took seven wickets at an average of 20.
Webster is excited to play the first test
This is Webster’s first international call-up, and the 30-year-old is extremely excited about the opportunity. He said, “Scoring runs and taking wickets against India ‘A’ was special. “Playing ‘A’ cricket is just below the Test level, which gives a lot of confidence.”
Webster also said that the call from selection committee chairman George Bailey was a proud moment for him. He said, “There is less time between Adelaide and the Gabba Test, so I have been selected to provide cover to the middle order.”
Webster’s presence strengthens the team’s fast bowling and all-rounder options. Mitchell Marsh, who bowled 17 overs in the Perth Test, has recently recovered from injury. In such a situation, Webster’s presence in the team can prove important.
In his career, Beau Webster has scored more than 5000 first-class runs and also taken around 150 wickets.
