Delhi: Australia’s young fast bowler Lily Bassingthwaite, who is currently representing Australia in the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup 2025, has described Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah as her role model. Lillee said that people compare his bowling with Bumrah because his bowling action also shows “hyperextension” of the elbow like Bumrah.
‘Bumrah is my favourite’
In an ICC video, Lily said, “I would like to say that Jasprit Bumrah is my favourite. His elbows are also hyperextended, and mine are a little too, so people say that my bowling is similar to his. I like his mentality very much because he always takes wickets in difficult times. However, when he plays against Australia, it does not look good, but it is fun to watch him.”
Lillee performed brilliantly in Australia’s opening match against Nepal. He took 2 wickets for only 4 runs in 3 overs, due to which Nepal’s team was reduced to 56/8. Australia won this match by scoring 139/6.
Bumrah’s brilliant performance
At the same time, Jasprit Bumrah is a strong contender for the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year Award due to his excellent performance in 2024. He took 71 wickets in 13 Test matches in 2024 at an average of 14.92. He has been included in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad, but the BCCI has not yet taken a final decision on his injury.
