Delhi: The era of former captain of Pakistan cricket team Babar Azam is not doing anything special these days. The bat is silent and now a shocking news related to Pakistan Super League (PSL) has created a stir. Babur is currently captaining Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL 2025 season. Earlier, he played 6 seasons for Karachi Kings from 2017 to 2022. But, after this, Karachi Kings released him, and now the owner of the team has revealed the major reason behind it. He told why the franchise had released Babur before the PSL 2023 season.

In a recent interview, Karachi Kings owner Salman Iqbal said that Babar was dropped from the team due to disagreement over the batting order. He said that the franchise wanted Babur to bat at number three, but Babur was not ready to leave his opening position. Salman Iqbal said, “We wanted him to bat at number three, but he was not ready to change his role.”

Babur has spent most of his career time, whether it is PSL or international cricket, as an opener. Recently, many questions have arisen on his performance. Babur did not bat in the Domestic ODI Tri -series and the ICC Champions Trophy held in early 2025, and Pakistan’s team was eliminated from the first round of the tournament.

Babar Azam is struggling to score runs even in the current PSL season. Playing for Peshawar Zalmi, he has scored only one run in two innings so far. This is the same Babur who played an important role in winning the title of PSL to Karachi Kings in 2020. In that season, he scored 473 runs in 11 innings and played an unbeaten 63* run match in the final.
