Delhi: Big Bash League (BBL) is considered one of the most exciting and famous T20 leagues in the world. But, in the qualifier match played between Sydney Thunder (ST) and Melbourne Stars (MS) on Wednesday i.e., 22 January, the match had to be stopped due to a strange reason. This obstruction was not caused by any rain or storm, but by lightning.

Sydney Thunder started batting first in this match. Only 3.3 overs of the innings were bowled when the game was stopped due to lightning. Although there was no lightning on the field, the news of lightning about 8 kilometers away alerted the players and officials. According to Australian rules, if lightning occurs within a radius of 10 kilometers, then any game is stopped. It is noteworthy that every year in Australia, 5-10 people die due to lightning, and many people are also injured.

Game stopped for 15 minutes

This match was very important, because the losing team would have been out of the tournament. The players were sent off the field at 7:25 pm (local time). When the situation became normal, the game started again after about 15 minutes. However, due to wastage of time the match had to be shortened and both innings were reduced from 20 overs to 19 overs. It is noteworthy that Hobart Hurricanes have already made it to the finals in BBL 2024-25.
