Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian women’s team for the tri -series against Sri Lanka and South Africa later this month. Three new faces – Kashvi Gautam, N Shri Charani and Shuchi Upadhyay, have been included in the national team for the first time in this team. Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to captain the team, while Smriti Mandhana will play the role of vice -captain.

Many players who performed brilliantly in the recently concluded Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 have also been included in this team. At the same time, experienced players like Sneh Rana, Amanjot Kaur and Arundhati Reddy are also returning to the team.

Shaifali Verma did not find the place again

The most shocking thing is that explosive opener Shaifali Verma was once again ignored. Verma scored the most runs among Indian players by scoring 304 runs at a strike rate of 152.76 in WPL 2024. His performance in domestic cricket was also strong, yet he was not included in the team.

Major fast bowlers injured, new bowlers chance

Prominent bowlers like Renuka Singh Thakur, Pooja Vastrakar, Teetas Sadhu and Shremaka Patil will not be able to participate in this series due to injury. The BCCI said in a statement, “Renuka Singh Thakur and Teetas Sadhu are currently injured and are not available for selection.”

In his absence, players like Sneh Rana and Arundhati Reddy will have additional responsibility on their shoulders. At the same time, Pritka Rawal can be given the role of opening with vice -captain Smriti Mandhana. In the middle order, Harleen Deol, Jemima Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh, Deepti Sharma and captain Harmanpreet Kaur will prove to be the backbone of the team.

Series program

The tri -series will begin on 27 April from the match between India and host Sri Lanka. India will play its league matches on 27 and 29th April, 4 and 7 May. The top two teams will face face to face in the final on May 11.
