Delhi: Great batsman Virat Kohli has expressed his desire to retire from Test cricket. According to sources associated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), 36 -year -old Kohli has recently expressed its intention to the board to withdraw from the Test format. Kohli, who made his Test debut in 2011, has been a strong pillar of India’s Red-Ball cricket team for the last decade.
Kohli has so far scored more than 9,000 runs and 30 centuries in Test cricket, and his batting style has left a deep impression on the hearts of the fans.
However, BCCI is not in the mood to let Kohli go yet. According to a NDTV report, the top officials of the board have approached Kohli and requested him to reconsider his decision. Especially when India has to go on challenging tours like England and Australia, where Kohli’s experience can prove to be very important.
On the condition of anonymity, a BCCI official said, “He is still very fit and has a hungry to play. His presence in the dressing room gives a different energy to the team. We have asked him to take some more time before taking the final decision.”
Meanwhile, India’s captain Rohit Sharma has already announced his retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday. If Kohli chooses the same path, then in the cycle of the new World Test Championship (WTC), the weight of India’s Test batting will fall on most young players. The bicycle will start from 20 June against England with a Test series of five matches in Leeds.
