Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) has imposed a fine by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2025, Australian all -rounder Glenn Maxwell, playing for Punjab Kings (PBKS). Maxwell was found guilty of violating the IPL code of conduct in the match played against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Due to this, the BCCI has imposed a 25 percent fine of the match fee on them.
The BCCI issued a statement late on Tuesday night saying that Maxwell has committed Level 1 crime under Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct, which he has also accepted. He has accepted the decision of the match referee without any controversy.
What is Article 2.2?
Maxwell has been convicted under Section 2.2 of the code of conduct made for IPL players and team officials. Under this article, any work that is out of the normal behavior of cricket, such as intentionally demolishing wickets, damaging any property from the bat or any other thing, throwing anger or making noise, falls under the category of crime.
For example, if a player damages the advertising board or stump with his bat in frustration, then he is considered a violation of this rule.
Significantly, in this match, Punjab Kings have defeated Chennai Super Kings by 18 runs. This was CSK’s fourth consecutive defeat.
