Delhi: A board room has been inaugurated in honor of India’s legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar at the headquarters of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which is named ‘10,000 Gavaskar’. This name has been named in honor of his 10,000 Test runs.
Sharing a video, the BCCI wrote, “Honor to a veteran! India’s great Sunil Gavaskar inaugurated the ‘10,000 Gavaskar’ board room built in his name at the BCCI headquarters.”
In this program, Chairman of Indian Cricket Board Roger Binny, Vice President Rajiv Shukla and Secretary Devjit Saikia were present.
Gavaskar said on this occasion, “MCA is my mother and BCCI my father. Thank you very much. I really appreciate this honor. Whatever opportunity I got is because of Indian cricket. This is a great honor for me. I am very grateful to BCCI and want to say that whenever I want anything at me, no matter what time you want, even at this age, I am always ready, I am ready, I am always ready,”
In the video, he can also be seen signing a picture of his play days.
Significantly, Sunil Gavaskar was the first batsman to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket. He scored 10,122 runs in 125 Tests at an average of 51, including 34 centuries. In ODI cricket too, he has 3092 runs in 108 matches.
The record of his Test centuries was later broken by Sachin Tendulkar. A ‘Sachin Tendulkar Room’ has also been dedicated to the BCCI headquarters in honor of Sachin.
