Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering making changes in the coaching staff of Team India. Especially the appointment of batting coach is being discussed. However, no official announcement has been made on this yet. Along with this, to promote fitness, BCCI is considering re-introducing the Yo-Yo test and making it a criterion for team selection.

According to the report of Cricbuzz, the role of the coaching staff was discussed in detail in the review meeting held in Mumbai on January 11. During this time, the matter of adding another batting coach in the team came to light. The names of many former great players of domestic cricket are being considered, but at present no final decision has been taken.

At present, the coaching staff of Team India includes head coach Gautam Gambhir, bowling coach Morne Morkel, assistant coaches Abhishek Nair and Ryan ten Doeschate, and fielding coach T Dilip. Recently, the coaching staff is being criticized after the team’s defeat in the Test series on Australia tour. Especially questions have been raised due to Virat Kohli’s repeated dismissals in the same manner and the poor performance of captain Rohit Sharma.

Considering the return of yo-yo test

According to the report of Times of India, BCCI is planning to re-implement the Yo-Yo test to improve the fitness of Team India. Earlier the Yo-Yo test was removed in view of the increasing number of injuries. Now it can again be made mandatory for team selection.

What is yo-yo test?

Yo-yo test is a running test. In this, players have to run between two sets at a distance of 20 meters. After each shuttle, the running time decreases, but the distance remains the same. It is necessary for the Indian team to score a minimum of 16.5. This test was started in Team India in 2017 by former strength and conditioning coach Shankar Basu. These changes are being made with the aim of improving the fitness and performance of the team.
