Delhi: Since the recent attacks in Pahalgam, there have been new speculations about the cricket matches between India and Pakistan. According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suggested to the International Cricket Council (ICC) that India and Pakistan should not be kept in the same group in future ICC tournaments.
Both teams will play in ICC Women’s World Cup
However, women’s teams of both countries will participate in the ICC Women’s World Cup to be held this year. The format of this tournament is round-robin, in which all teams will play against each other. Pakistan’s team has qualified, but according to the old agreement between ICC and PCB, Pakistan will not play any matches in India. So far it has not been decided on which neutral venue their matches will be held.
BCCI’s attitude dependent on the government’s decision
BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla has already made it clear that the board will move forward according to the decision of the Government of India. At the same time, according to the report of Cricbuzz, BCCI will not give any official statement on this matter yet.
2026 T20 World Cup and Asia Cup eye
The next large ICC tournament will be held in 2026, when India and Sri Lanka will jointly host the T20 World Cup in February-March. But, at present, BCCI’s priority is the Asia Cup, which is to be held in September this year and India has to be hosted.
Media Rights of Asia Cup
It was earlier being said that the tournament would be on a neutral venue (such as Dubai or Sri Lanka), but now a new Cricbuzz report has revealed that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has sold media rights for about $ 170 million for 4 editions. The deal was based on the condition that there will be at least two India-Pakistan matches in each edition, and if both teams reach the finals, then the third match can also happen.
2023 Asia Cup condition
In the last Asia Cup held in 2023, India and Pakistan were placed in the same group. Two matches were played between the two, out of which one had gone to rain. Pakistan could not reach the final and India won the title by defeating Sri Lanka.
