Such reports are coming out that before the innings of IPL 2025, the umpires will check the bat of all the players.
It has been seen in the Indian Premier League for a long time that the field umpires are checking the bat of the players. Actually, the umpires want to see that whoever is using a big bat while batting, he should remove it.
All this was seen when the umpire checked that the batsmen were using the second bat and when he is coming to bat, he is changing his bat. However, now such a report is coming out that before the innings of IPL 2025, the umpires will check the bat of all the players.
What does the rule say?
During the Kolkata Knight Riders vs. Punjab Kings match played on 15 April, the umpires checked the bat of Sunil Narine, Enrik Northern and Andre Russell. The three batsmen failed in the bat test after which they had to change the bat. Even before this, Phil Salat and Hardik Pandya’s bat umpire have been seen checking during the match. This is being done by the umpires so that no batsmen can take unfair advantage by taking big or heavy bat from the rules.
The width of the bat is limited to 4.25 inches (10.8 cm), the maximum depth is 2.64 inches (6.7 cm) and the edge should not exceed 1.56 inches (4.0 cm). The handle should not exceed 52% of the total length of the bat. The thickness of the covering material is limited to 0.04 inches (0.1 cm), and the thickness of any to -protection should not exceed 0.12 inches (0.3 cm). Additionally, the bat should easily pass through the official bat gauge.
According to the rules, the bats of two opening batsmen will be checked by the fourth umpire, when they enter the field, while two officers on the field cross-batsmen. Earlier, the bat test was done before the day of the match, but the flaw was exposed after some players returned with different bats the next day.
