Delhi: England’s Test captain and legendary all-rounder Ben Stokes has always been an important player in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has represented teams like Rajasthan Royals (RR), Rising Pune Super Giants (RPS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). However, for the last few seasons, Stokes could not participate in the IPL due to injury and workload management. This time also he has not given his name in the IPL 2025 mega auction, due to which he will have to pay a heavy price for this decision.

Former England Test captain Joe Root has also kept himself out of the auction, due to which both Stokes and Root are banned from playing in the IPL for the next two seasons. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently released the list of 1574 players participating in the IPL Auction 2025, in which the names of Stokes and Root are not included.
At the same time, great fast bowler James Anderson, who recently retired from Tests, will be a part of this auction, but Stokes and Root will now have to wait till 2027 to return to the IPL. BCCI has recently implemented this rule that the foreign players who remain out of the mega auction will not be able to participate in next year’s auction.
Stokes has also done this!
This rule of BCCI has come because many foreign players used to stay out of the mega auction and later come to the mini auction and get huge money. Stokes has also done this. Without taking part in the 2022 mega auction, he signed with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for Rs 16.25 crore in the 2023 mini auction.
The all-rounder made his IPL debut in 2017 for Rising Pune Super Giants (RPS) for Rs 15.25 crore and since then he has been among the most expensive players in the league, but this time he was left out of the mega auction. He has lost a big opportunity, due to which he will not be able to join this league again till 2027.
