Delhi: New Zealand star batsman Mark Chapman is out of the second ODI. He suffered an injury to hamstring while playing a brilliant 132 runs in the first ODI. After the MRI scan it was found that they had grade-1 tier. However, this is not a serious injury and they can return to the field again by completing the rehab soon.
Tim Sifart gets a chance
In the absence of Chapman, wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Sifart has been included in the team. He performed tremendously in the recently ended five -match T20 series. Pyphurt scored an average of 62.25 in five innings and 249 runs at a strike rate of 207.50. He played a stormy innings of 97* runs off 38 balls in the last T20, which included 10 sixes. On the basis of his innings, New Zealand won the series 4–1.
Cyphurt has last played ODI in 2019. He has played only three ODIs so far, in which his performance has not been special and he has scored 22 runs.
Head coach Gary Stead’s response
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead expressed grief over Chapman’s injury. He said, “In the first ODI, Chapman played a great innings, so his injury is a big shock for us.” However, he hopes that Chapman will be fit by the last ODI after rehabilitation.
Stead said about Cypert, “There are many new faces in our squad, so it will be beneficial to join the experienced player like Tim. He has been in great form recently and with his arrival we will get a strong option in the top order.”
