Delhi: Gujarat Titans (GT) has suffered a major setback before the playoffs, as star wicket batsman Jose Butler will not be part of the team in the remaining Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to national duties. Butler will return to England after the last league match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on 25 May. His absence may affect the strength of GT’s middle order in knockout matches, but the team’s assistant coach Matthew Wade described it as a big opportunity for other players.

Wade said in the pre -match press conference, “We are not worried about this. We know that whenever the players have got a chance, they have done well and we are confident that they will contribute to the team even further.”

GT’s top three batsmen – Sai Sudarshan, Shubman Gill and Jose Butler have scored more than 500 runs so far this season and have played an important role in the success of the team. However, the new batsman will be given a chance at number three under Butler’s absence.

To this, Wade said, “If the top order scored continuously, it will be an ideal situation for us. But, the player who replaces Butler will have a chance to make a big impact, as we have seen in the last six to eight weeks.”

Wade, who has been a member of Australia’s T20 World Cup winning team, who himself has played 12 IPL matches for GT, said, “Sherfen Rutherford, Shah Rukh Khan and Rahul Tewatiya, like players, have performed well whenever they got a chance.

The GT is currently at the top of the table and its next match is against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), which has already been out of the playoff race.
