Delhi: The BCCI has announced a cash prize of Rs 58 crore for Team India, which won the Champions Trophy. In this amount, players and head coach Gautam Gambhir will get Rs 3-3 crore. The award amount is to appreciate the performance of the players and their contribution to the team’s victory.
Sunil Gavaskar raised questions
India’s great cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar questioned this and asked if Gautam Gambhir would follow the example of his predecessor Rahul Dravid, who refused to take more money than his associate staff. Significantly, after India’s victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup, Dravid took the same prize money with his assistant coaches. However, Gambhir has not yet made any statement on this subject.
BCCI prize money
According to BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia, Assistant Coach and Associate Staff will get Rs 50 lakh, while BCCI officials will get Rs 25-25 lakh. The prize money is being given to encourage all members and appreciate their contribution after the victory of the Champions Trophy.
Gavaskar praised BCCI
Gavaskar appreciated the BCCI and said that the board has declared a prize money of Rs 58 crore for the team, support staff and selection committee after the Champions Trophy victory. He appreciated that the board is now in a glut of money and is appreciating the efforts of the players and staff.
Gavaskar also said that the BCCI has also allowed the prize money announced by the ICC to the players, which is a big amount for every player.
