Delhi: There is only a short time left for the ICC Champions Trophy, but the controversy regarding this event is not ending. Earlier there was conflict between India and Pakistan, and now slogans have started being raised against Afghanistan. England had raised this issue, and now South Africa has also joined it.
Boycott appeal
An appeal was made in the Parliament of England that the Champions Trophy match should not be played against Afghanistan because the Taliban regime is oppressing women. Now South Africa’s Sports Minister Gaetan McKenzie has also made a similar appeal. He says that the match against Afghanistan should be boycotted. South Africa has to play Afghanistan in the first match. McKenzie has appealed to Cricket South Africa to reconsider this and send a strong message in support of women’s rights.
Decision will be taken according to ICC
Cricket South Africa has responded to this and said that it will follow ICC guidelines in this matter. He also said that he is against the violation of women’s rights in Afghanistan and believes in equal status for women’s cricket. However, the Champions Trophy is an ICC event, so the final decision in this matter has to be taken by the ICC only.
