Delhi: New Zealand has suffered a major setback before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Star fast bowler Lockie Ferguson suffered a hamstring injury during the ILT20 2025 qualifier 1 match. Ferguson, the captain of Desert Wipers, could not even spend his entire four overs and left the field during the match. On the last ball, the team had to defend only 1 run, but in the absence of Ferguson, Mohammad Amir bowled the ball and the opposition team won the match with a four.
Ferguson reaction to injury
In the post-match presentation after the match, Ferguson said, “Just a light hamstring problem, it has been unfortunate. It was a difficult night, I wish I could put the last ball. “
However, after scanning the next day, it was found that it is not just a minor injury. New Zealand’s head coach Gary Stead said that he is waiting for the report to understand the seriousness of Ferguson’s injury.
Stead said, “Locky has a scan in UAE and we have asked for a report. Currently, it is getting a small hamstring injury, but we have to decide whether it will come to Pakistan or we have to choose another player for the Champions Trophy. ”
Ferguson did not play the match against Sharjah Warriors in Qualifier 2 of ILT20. Now, there is still doubt on whether he will be able to play in the final match on 9 February.
The fast bowler has played 3 matches in Pakistan so far and has taken the same number of wickets, but his average has been 48.33. Now it will be interesting to see whether he gets fit soon and plays the finals or New Zealand will have to find a new fast bowler for the Champions Trophy.
