Jaipur: The Sri Lankan team has set several records at international level in cricket. With the host nation of 1996 World Cup, Sri Lanka also achieved the distinction of becoming the winner in that World Cup. If we talk about the Champions Trophy, then a big record here is only with the only Sri Lankan team. Actually, the Champions Trophy has been organized 8 times so far. The International Cricket Council (ICC) started this prestigious trophy of cricket for the first time in 1998. Then it started to be organized after every two years and it was also named Mini World Cup. But Sri Lanka, the only country to host this trophy, is the unique record that the country in which it was organized, the same country has raised this trophy as the winner.
2002 The third edition of the Champions Trophy was held in the joint host of India and Sri Lanka, in which both Sri Lanka and Team India were jointly declared winners. The finals were played for two days but both the days the matches were canceled and both teams were declared joint winners.
Hosted, but no chance to play
In 1998, Bangladesh was the first country where the first edition of this trophy started. Although Bangladesh could only host, but his team could not qualify for this trophy. In 1998, South Africa won the trophy by defeating West Indies in the final. If it comes to the first winner of the Champions Trophy, the name of the African team will be at the top. This time India got hosted and the West Indies team succeeded in making it to the title match in the second consecutive edition. But Australia defeated the Windies by 8 wickets with DL Method for the first time. The Mini World Cup, which was being held at the first two -year interval, was now held in South Africa in 2009 after three years and Australian became the first team here which got the pride of becoming the winner in the second consecutive edition.
